During a meeting with the a delegation from the Independent High Electoral Commission headed by the Head of the Board of Commissioners, Judge Jalil Adnan Khalaf, His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nabeel Kadim Abid Al-Sahib expressed the Ministry institutions’ readiness on supporting the Independent High Electoral Commission and providing all capabilities to achieve its national mission in holding the legislative elections scheduled for the 10th of October. Judge Khalaf renewed his appreciation for the continuous cooperation and communication of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the contribution of university’s faculty members in the details of this mission that will enhance the chances of success in achieving the goals. Judge Khalaf praised the stands of Higher Education in supporting the procedures of the Independent High Electoral Commission and completing a full audit of the documents of the candidates by the Ministry and universities which amount to two thousand four hundred and ninety-eight documents within the required time limit. Judge Khalaf reviewed the mechanism adopted by the Commission to implement Cabinet Resolution No. 174 of 2021, which includes the use of university faculty members, assigning them to supervise polling stations on the day of the general vote and granting them powers determined by the Board of Commissioners that do not intersect with the tasks of polling station coordinators. Judge Khalaf added that this procedure is based on the authority granted to the Board of Commissioners to use the services of employees and select staff, especially university faculty members who are distinguished by their scientific skill, professional competence and academic experience in providing the necessary support.
