College of Education, Samarra University discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the evaluation of fetuin A and B levels and some biochemical indicators as indicators of liver damage in patients with beta thalassemia by the postgraduate student, Mr. Maher Rashid Hamid.
The thesis aimed at evaluating fetuin A and B levels, as well as some inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin and interferon alpha, in patients with beta thalassemia.
The thesis demonstrated the evaluation of some biochemical variables, such as metalloendopeptidase, ferritin, iron, and hemoglobin, as well as the evaluation of the activity of liver enzymes such as aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase.
The thesis concluded that the levels of fetuin A and B were significantly higher in patients with beta thalassemia major compared to the healthy group and that the levels of inflammatory cytokines, represented by interleukin 33 and interferon alpha, were significantly higher in patients with beta thalassemia major, besides increasing activity of liver enzymes and levels of biochemical variables.
