Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research reviewed that “Embodying the institutional performance and strategic vision of the Iraq continues to consolidate its presence in the global scientific publishing space and achieve remarkable progress in the rankings of academic journals indexed in the Scopus database”.
Higher Education highlighted that “As a clear indication of the solid scientific content of Iraqi research and journals”, as well as the Ministry announces a qualitative national achievement represented by the rise in the CiteScore index for 2025 for twenty-nine Iraqi journals, including:
(Mesopotamian Journal of Computer Science) achieved a CiteScore of 13.4 and (Mesopotamian Journal of Big Data) entered the global ranking with a score of 7.1.
Higher Education demonstrated that “Based on the update issued on July 5, 2025, the number of Iraqi journals listed in the Scopus database reached (39) journals, distributed as follows:
▪️7 journals in the first quarter (Q1).
▪️4 journals in the second quarter (Q2).
▪️14 journals in the third quarter (Q3).
▪️19 journals achieved Quartile status for the first time.
▪️3 journals were newly listed during 2025.”
Higher Education also reviewed that “While the Ministry appreciates the institutional and scientific efforts made by Iraqi universities in developing their specialized journals, it affirms its firm commitment to continue this strategic direction, which consolidates Iraq's scientific position and enhances the presence of its academic institutions in the fields of international accreditation and recognition.”
