Department of Water Resources Engineering in the College of Engineering, University of Al-Mustansiriyah organized a symposium on the impact of the Turkish Ilısu dam on the water revenues of Iraq.
The symposium, in which a number of researchers and faculty members participated, highlighted the potential impacts of Ilısu dam on water revenues coming to Iraq via the Tigris River after Turkey started filling the dam reservoirs in early of June.
The symposium reviewed the scarcity of water over time and their effect on Iraq's strategic water reserves as well as low rainfall of this year which contributed in reducing water reservoirs.
The symposium also reviewed the risks of water shortage on the Iraqi environment in increasing desertification, low water levels of the Marshlands, raising the percentage of pollutants in water, shrinking cultivated areas and rising temperatures.
