College of Basic Education, University of Misan discussed a master dissertation on the electrochemical and physical properties of locally prepared apatite and iron oxide nanoparticles and tested their efficiency in removing pollutants from soil. by postgraduate student, Ms. Riyam Saad Al-Din Ali.

The dissertation aimed at preparing and characterizing nanomaterials made of hydroxyapatite and nanosized iron oxides (ferrihydrite, goethite, and hematite) using chemical synthesis techniques, as well as demonstrating their physical and electrochemical properties and evaluate their efficiency in treating environmental pollutants and testing their ability to remove heavy metals (nickel and cadmium) from soil and water.

The dissertation emphasized that the prepared nanomaterials possess distinct properties that make them effective in adsorption and removal of pollutants. Hydroxyapatite achieved the highest removal efficiency, exceeding 90% in some cases, while hematite achieved an efficiency exceeding 80%.

The dissertation recommended the use of these locally prepared nanomaterials as promising adsorbents in the fields of environmental protection and the treatment of contaminated water and soil.
