College of Science, University of Diyala discussed a master dissertation on designing and studying of the impact of atmospheric turbulence on laser communications by the postgraduate student, Ms. Saja Saleh Mahdi.

The dissertation aimed at studying the impact of atmospheric turbulence on free-space optical communication systems using two types of LASERS (a solid-state laser with a wavelength of 532 nm and a semiconductor laser with a wavelength of 850 nm).

The dissertation included conducting practical simulation experiments of the atmospheric layer and measuring signal performance under various influences such as humidity, dust, smoke, and temperature.

The dissertation reviewed choosing the laser type and wavelength is a key factor in reducing the impact of atmospheric turbulence and achieving better signal stability, which contributes to the development of modern optical communication systems.
