Basrah University: On Diyala River Flood

College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basrah organized an online workshop on the characteristics of the flooding of the Diyala River of 2019 and the proposed solutions. The online workshop demonstrated a picture of the flood season of the Diyala River of year 2019 and the role of the responsible authorities in addressing its dangers and submitting proposals to address the negatives that emerged during the flood. The online workshop reviewed the nature of the flooding of the Diyala River of 2018-2019 of the water year, as well as reviewing the importance of studying the flood and organizing activities for managing water resources in the river basin in an appropriate manner for the development in the region. The online workshop highlighted that the flood of the Diyala River of the water year 2018-2019 occurred due to water revenues that amounted to (11.0 billion cubic meters) more than the natural rates and the difficulty of passing them through the stream channel due to the overruns on the river basin, which caused a 50% decrease in its capacity to drain the flood waves.
