Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance, University of Al-Mustansiriyah organized a workshop on the role of the universities in achieving sustainable development goals. The workshop demonstrated the responsibility of the universities in achieving the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, ways to benefit from the available means and capabilities and harnessing them for this purpose, as well as reviewing a number of successful experiences of universities in developed countries in this field. The workshop highlighted the most prominent axes of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals, which include the transition from the method of education to learn from the need to the production, from the stage of ideas to innovate and from developing skills to launch initiatives besides the necessary practices to achieve sustainable development and what can be done by the colleges and research centers in this regard. The workshop concluded the importance of the role of education in the sustainable development process, especially since university graduates are the main inputs that run the development movement, as well as the most developed societies and countries are working on activating the role of universities in achieving development goals.
