Department of Environment and Water, merged Ministry of Science and Technology held a symposium on climate change and its effects on water management. The symposium, in which a number of researchers and specialists participated, reviewed the effects of climate on rainfall and severe water shortages as well as decreasing rainfall and snow on the Turkish highlands and thus the low flow rates of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The symposium addressed problems facing the water resources in Iraq, the effects of the climate factor on them and the ecosystem of the marshes, climate change and environmental degradation in Shatt al-Arab to reach the proposed strategy for water management in Iraq.
