College of Science, University of Diyala discussed a master dissertation on the evaluation of Fibulin-1 levels in the serum of patients with diabetic nephropathy by the postgraduate student, Mr. Alaa Waleed Abdul-Qader.
The dissertation aimed at assessing
the concentrations of Fibulin-1 in the serum of patients with type 2 diabetes
and compare them with healthy individuals, in addition to determining the
relation between its levels and certain clinical variables such as blood
glucose, HbA1c, kidney function markers, and lipid profile.
The dissertation reviewed that a
significant increase in Fibulin-1 levels among patients with diabetic
nephropathy compared to the control group, a less pronounced elevation was also
observed in other diabetic patients, as well as studying found a positive
correlation in patients with diabetic nephropathy between Fibulin-1 and blood
glucose, HbA1c, urea, creatinine and lipids, while the estimated glomerular
filtration rate (eGFR) showed an inverse relations with Fibulin-1 levels.
