College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Wasit discussed a master dissertation on certain physiological and immunological indicators of thyroid disorders in patients with rheumatoid arthritis by the postgraduate student, Mr. Ahmed Ismail Raheema.
The dissertation aimed at describing the relation between hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and rheumatoid arthritis in general, as well as predicting the occurrence of thyroid dysfunction among patients with rheumatoid arthritis, anticipate diseases that may result from these disorders, and propose solutions to limit their impact.
The dissertation indicated a clear association between thyroid disorders and several hematological, biochemical, and immunological markers, showing that smoking, body mass index age, and gender have a significant effect on these indicators.
The dissertation revealed a marked increase in certain immunological markers in specific groups, supporting the likelihood of their role in the progression of thyroid disorders, particularly Hashimoto’s disease.
