College of Science, Mustansiriyah University discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the concentrations of molecular particles emitted from the gas flares of the North Oil Company in Kirkuk Governorate by the postgraduate student, Mr. Sajad Hisham Saleh.

The thesis highlighted the impact of aerosol particles generated from gas flaring in the Baba Industrial Zone on air quality.

The thesis involved analyzing the physical and chemical properties of suspended and deposited particles and assessing their concentration levels across several sites within the geographic scope of oil industries.

The thesis confirmed that meteorological factors play a key role in the distribution and accumulation of particles in the air soil analyses revealed elevated concentrations of heavy elements caused by continuous emissions from gas flaring, while spatial analysis indicated additional sources of pollution originating from oil industries in Salah al-Din Governorate, further complicating the issue of air pollution  in Kirkuk.
