Shatrah University’s Master’s Dissertation on Molecular Diagnosis of Candida Fungi in Diabetic Patients
The College of Veterinary Medicine, Shatrah University discussed a master dissertation on the molecular and morphological diagnosis of Candida species isolated from the urine of diabetic patients by the postgraduate student, Ms. Farah Abd Al-Saad.
The dissertation aimed at studying urinary tract infections caused by Candida spp. as a common clinical problem, particularly among diabetics due to predispose factors that contribute to increase risk of infection.
The dissertation demonstrated the identification of three main Candida species in the clinical samples studied, along with the identification of the morphological and molecular characteristics that distinguish each species, as well as improving the accuracy of laboratory diagnosis of fungal infections and developing methods for early detection in diabetic patients.
