College of Education for Pure Sciences at Samarra University discussed a master dissertation on the preparation and characterization of heterocyclic derivatives of chalcones and Schiff bases and a study of their biological activity by the postgraduate student, Mr. Baha Sabah Khadir.

The dissertation aimed at preparing chalcone derivatives containing two thiophene nuclei, the preparation of para-xylene ring substitutes resulting from the reaction of prepared chalcones with some hydrazines, and the preparation of Schiff base derivatives containing a thiophene nucleus with some nitrogenous heterocyclic rings.

The dissertation that chalcones containing two nuclei of the thiophene ring were obtained in good product ratios, as well as obtaining pyrazolines from the ring-closing reaction of the prepared chalcones with some hydrazine derivatives in good product ratios, as well as Schiff base compounds containing the thiophene nucleus with the pyridine and tetrazole rings in good product ratios.
