During a meeting with Baghdad Governorate, which was held in the Governorate building, His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nabeel Kadim Abid Al-Sahib said that the Ministry agreed on supporting and completing infrastructure projects in the universities, enhancing their spaces and launching study programs to develop competencies. Dr. Abid Al-Sahib reviewed the universities’ projects in Baghdad and the required fund for achievement in light of the highest priorities imposed by the current situation and the financial, economic and health challenges. His Excellency added that developing universities, supporting their projects and overcoming obstacles in front of them are enough to address the changes that occur at the scientific, economic, health and social levels, as well as addressing the population growth indicator, which imposes an annual increasing capacity in universities and colleges and enables academic institutions to achieve their basic function in serving the community and meeting its scientific, research and advisory needs. Dr. Abid Al-Sahib that the current situation requires an integrated plan between universities and the governorate of Baghdad to launch in the fields of cooperation, especially those related to infrastructure projects and expansion plans in academic institutions in light of the community's need to cover its scientific requirements. His Excellency highlighted that the faculty members are conducting their duties at the highest responsible level, which requires a support via providing the requirements of appropriate housing. Dr. Abid Al-Sahib announced that the two sides formed of two committees, the first committee draw up appropriate plans for the inclusion of Higher Education projects within the projects of the Baghdad Governorate and development projects. His Excellency also reviewed that the important university projects will be part of the regional development plan, with an estimated cost that may reach for twenty-six billions Iraqi Dinars. For his part, Eng. Al-Atta reviewed the governorate’s tendency to support university institutions, expand their infrastructure and complete their suspended projects according to the contexts set by the federal budget, as well as reviewing the scale of development in cities is related to the presence of university institutions in them and their impact on providing scientific climates and appropriate educational services. It is worth mentioning that the meeting was attended by Governor of Baghdad, Eng. Muhammad Jaber Al-Atta, the Deputy of the Ministry for Administrative Affairs, Director-General of Construction and Projects, presidents of Baghdad, Al-Mustansiriyah, Technology, Middle Technical, Al-Nahrain, Al-Iraqia, Information Technology and Communication, Ibn Sina for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Al-Karkh for Sciences Universities and assistant governor of Baghdad, as well as two sides expressed their appreciation for this mutual cooperation and their keenness on providing an environment of integration among State institutions.
