In cooperation with UNESCO, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research held a training workshop on reducing violent extremism via education in Iraq, Director-General of Studies, Planning and Follow-up , Dr. Ihab Naji Abbas said. Dr. Abbas that the Ministry is working with the interested international organizations interested in eliminating extremism via organizing courses and scientific workshops to develop specialized staff to reduce this phenomenon and work to lay the foundations of communication and community peace and the rejection of hatred. For his part, Associate Director of the Reduction of Violent Extremism Program in UNESCO, Mr. Hummam Talal highlighted that UNESCO via its cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s keenness on training a number of leaders in the universities in a number of Iraqi Governorates on the topics of critical thinking, media and information literacy to curb extremism violence via education in Iraq. It is worth mentioning that the workshop demonstrated training programs on verifying news information via using information verification techniques, media messages and mechanisms of understanding, analysis and evaluation.
