College of Education, University of Al-Mustansiriyah organized an online symposium on the recognized international rankings for the universities, via Google classroom application. The online symposium, in which more than 550 researchers and faculty members participated, reviewed the most prominent international rankings for universities such as the Academic Ranking of World Universities and Times Higher Education World University Rankings for sustainable development, QS Ranking and RUR Ranking, as well as reviewing the criteria adopted by them in ranking the universities from different countries, and requirements that ensure Iraqi universities to obtain the rankings and advanced score . For his part, Dean’s Assistant for Scientific Affairs of the College, Dr. Alaa Hussein Shonaishil, reviewed in details the criteria for international ranking of universities such as the quality of education, the number of the published studies and researches in recognized international journals with impact factor and the number of reference to researchers and quotes from their academic products, researches productions, academic performance and websites. The online symposium highlighted the mechanisms of dealing with the recognized international ranking, filling out their forms, bypassing and avoiding areas of imbalance, ways of collecting the scientific productions of the faculty members and research staff which published in journals in Clarivate and Scopus and the national rankings of the quality of Iraqi universities of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research since four academic years. The online symposium recommended setting research priorities, activating partnership programs with international universities, setting standards for academic excellence, focusing on international publishing, forming a permanent committee in each college to prepare the requirements for the ranking, and providing financial support for scientific researches as it is applied in the universities in the developed countries.
