Basrah University’s Ph.D. Thesis: On Cichorium Intybus Extracts & Cancer Cells

A Ph.D. thesis was discussed in the College of Science, University of Basrah on a cytopathological and histopathological study of some extracts of Cichorium Intybus herbs on some different types of normal and transformed cell lines in vivo and in vitro by researcher, Mr. Ziyad Abdel-Kadhim Mezyed. The thesis reviewed the effect of different extracts isolated from the Cichorium intybus on different types of cancer cells in vivo and in vitro. The thesis aimed at isolating crude extracts of leaves, stems and roots, as well as isolating and purifying glycosides from leaves and studying their various effects as antioxidant and anti-cancer factors on cancer cells inside and outside the body. The thesis concluded that all the extracts had cell-inhibiting effects at different levels depending on the concentration and duration of exposure.
