Maisan University: On Fats’ Benefits & Harms on Human Body

College of Nursing, University of Maisan organized a symposium on the benefits and harms of fat on the human body by the faculty member, Mr. Saad Sabry Shamikh. The symposium reviewed the benefits and harms of fats, which are considered one of the nutrients that perform various functions of the body. The symposium highlighted that the benefits of fats in providing the body with amino acids that the body cannot produce and needs food to obtain, as well as these fats enable the body to control infections, control the blood clotting process and contribute to the development of the brain. The symposium also reviewed the damages of fat in obesity, regardless of its type and excess fat is linking to diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis and cancer. The symposium recommended that nutrition experts recommend that adults consume 25-30% of calories from fats, the percentage of saturated fats does not exceed 10%, as the body produces enough saturated fats for its needs and the lack of fat in the body gradually leads to deterioration and weakness of memory concentration.
