College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Mosul held a workshop on the integrated management of forest fires by the Director of Civil Defense in Nineveh Governorate, Human Rights Brigadier General Hossam Khalil Abed. The workshop included delivering a lecture on addressing the causes of fires and how to avoid them, as well as focusing on rehabilitating the forest area via taking care of the cultivated areas and planting new trees to replace the dilapidated and burned ones. The workshop demonstrated how to sustain forests and the importance of the current climatic situation, which constitutes another obstacle to forest growth and the reasons for the lack of regeneration in the absence of favorable conditions for seed germination, especially since seed companies do not produce fertile seeds or due to lack of rainfall.
